You are a failure as a bookreader the if you truely believe that. In order to enjoy such a book series you must completely miss the fact that this book encourages young girls to engage in completely unhealthy and possibly even deadly relationships with abusive/stalker boyfriends, as well as encouraging them to engage in relationship triangles which can in real life could very easily lead those abusive boyfriends to becomming murderers. This book fails to teach what consequences there are for the behaviors engaged in within this book.

Also it should not be forgotten that the fact the book has absolutely no literary quality, the only reason for it's success is it was undoubtably deleberately timed for publishing when people would be most suseptible to it's stupidity. It's lack of literary quality rivals that of even Ron L. Hubbard's writting, I am glad at least Stephanie Meyer hasnt deleberately tried to start a cult.

Yes book banning is of course a bad thing, but not in appropriate circumstances. It was appropriate for Hitler's Mein Kampf, and it is appropriate for the twilight series.

I pity you and your daughters for your ignorance.

When the first Twilight movie came out, I swore that I would never read nor see such a ridiculous series. My mom read them and told me they were great. I still didn't read them. One day she rented the first movie and I fell in love with Edward's devotion to Bella. Then I read the books. I read all four in a week and a half. The reason being that I couldn't get enough of Stephenie Meyer's fantasy world she had created. I am now reading the fifth book, and loving it. The fact that Twilight was number 5 on ALA's Top Challenged Books of 2009 is terrible. I guess I understand the whole sexual part of banning it. But, it is true that most teens have read or seen worse. To ban any book for religion is one of the most odd things I have ever heard. We shouldn't hide things from people. Unless it is offensive, I don't think we should do it.

when the book is getting a high-achievement, why critized it? i dont understand people...
many other books have heavier sex content which is the kids are reading it... why not care? just bcause meyer's book is popular, right?

I have read the twilight series and I must say the sexual content is very light considering it's YA fiction targeted at teenagers, who have seen their share of sex on TV or the movies. and instead of panicking about children coming across a sex scene in a book I think we should be more concerned about providing them with a good sexual education to start with.

It's silly to call this banning. It's primary school. Twilight is not appropriate for, and not targeted at, that readership. If this was a story about high school libraries, it might have some validity, but seriously, this is just pointless sensationalisation over nothing.

True, I think the decision should be up to the parents. In high school I had already ploughed through much of my father's science fiction collection, which wasn't short on sex, violence and disturbing themes. But I was a reader ahead of my age; most of my peers weren't.

Well, it's hard to say about Twilight! I have read snatches of the first Twilight book because my wife has read the series. She burned through them pretty quick, but I think a lot of people acknowledge they're a guilty pleasure; not quite as intellectual books as others out there. The ongoing lines about Edward's manly chest kind of give it away :)

But yes, LOTOR and Ender's Game are definitely worth reading ;)

Lord of the Rings and Ender's Game have the redeeming quality of being worth reading, which I would imagine doesn't hurt.
