		<description>There&#039;s also the pretty futile death of probably the coolest character in the trilogy (not named so as not to be spoilerific), already sidelined by Lancelot et al. The final book reminded me of an RPG in which the characters have reached near godhood, only to have the GM introduce some even more powerful NPCs to wrap up the plot as he wishes. 

Still one of my favorite stories but, as you say, the first two books promised so much more.</description>
